Peri + Mohamed
Just about eight years ago, Peri had just moved back home to Cairo from Toronto. On a Friday night, she reconnected with one of her high school friends to catch up. Ultimately, the stars aligned and they ended up at Mohamed's going away party. Peri and Mohamed had met once before while visiting home, so it was a nice change to say farewell and meet new people.
One thing led to another, and they spent the entire night talking and exchanged numbers. They didn’t put too much pressure on it, as he was moving away for work, but their connection immediately grew strong. What was supposed to be a one year move, turned into two, three, four, and all of a sudden they were knee-deep in a long distance relationship that they did not plan for. Even though they created wonderful memories meeting in various places and traveling together, they couldn’t bridge the distance and decided to break up.
Life went on, and a few years later, Peri moved to pursue her MSc in London. About a month later, Mohamed’s job sent him to the UK. As fate would have it, they came back together without even trying. And just a year later, they decided to get married.
As two Egyptians living abroad, having their wedding in Cairo was a no-brainer. They perfectly hit the balance between their cultural heritage and a romantic, whimsical aesthetic. Their wedding was held at Nūt Boutique Farm Lodge, a family-owned pecan farm on the outskirts of Cairo.
It had the exact balance they were looking for… traditional architecture that's charmingly authentic, domes and arches that echoed the beauty of Nubian design, and lush garden areas. It had a beautiful, intimate vibe that made decorating very easy.
“The first thing I remember noticing, before it was even completely on me, was how light, silky, and cool-to-touch the fabric was compared to the other 20+ dresses I had tried on before that. I knew I could spend an entire day in it in the Cairo heat.
I loved how playful it allowed me to be. It was beautiful enough to wear on its own, but flexible enough to layer on top of it and curate a 'look' that felt unique to me. I styled it with an AG silk scarf, and then I added classic fitted tulle gloves I found in a random bridal store in Barcelona. Finally, I paired it with my late grandmother’s pearl set which matched the dress perfectly. I basically had multiple varied looks throughout the night by simply putting things on and taking them off. It was different, and it felt simple and unfused.”
